Dedicated to preserving a pleasant environment in the Wilmslow Area
We are an amenity group who first met in 1961 when there was a threat to the character of Wilmslow. Local people decided that they needed their views to be known and respected in matters such as the preservation of the Green Belt, and that Wilmslow should not be swamped by an endless, amorphous urban sprawl (see separate section on the history of the Trust).
Today we have about 90 members, drawn from Wilmslow, Handforth, Styal and Alderley Edge. We canvass the views of our members and other local residents on key issues, and to act as an intermediary between them and local government.
Our committee includes a nominee from Wilmslow Town Council with which we seek to build bridges, and to make constructive contributions to its deliberations. We also have regular contacts with Cheshire East Borough Council and were one of the recognised stakeholder groups contributing in 2012 to the development of the Wilmslow Vision statement.
We continue to press our views on current issues such as the development of the town centre.
Wilmslow Civic Trust is a registered charity (no. 500319) and registered with the Civic Voice.
